Bill Sheckels
Danish furniture maker Bill Sheckels embraces a classically elegant design sensibility founded on Scandinavian and Shaker styles. He also loves to make puzzles, and his simple appearing designs belie the clever tricks he builds into each piece.
It’s always a good time for reading here at Bookses and Booze. I’ll take any excuse, and March 2 was “Read Across America Day”, which counts in my book.
In celebration of World Book Day (April 23), I had the inspired idea to pick up a book. OK, I know what you’re thinking …
It’s time to reach for a good book. We love books at Boxes and Booze headquarters, and puzzle boxes compete for space on the bookshelves with them here. Monday Aug 9 (2021) is National Book Lover’s Day, which is cause for celebration, and calls for an apropos special offering.
Bill Sheckels has been crafting fine furniture for over fifty years. He has been fortunate to run a successful small business over the years in pursuit of his life’s passion. His beautiful craft is highlighted by Scandinavian and Shaker style sensibilities and the simplicity of form that follows function.
Reflecting on time has been a preoccupation since at least the ancient Greeks, whose original god of time, Chronos, personified the concept.
Bill makes beautiful furniture in the Scandinavian and Shaker influenced style, ascribing to the moto that form follows function. He also likes puzzles, and has a successful puzzle shop called Black Dog Puzzle Works where he offers his hand-made challenges in elegant hardwoods.
Hungry? Me too, I could really use a sandwich. I’m particularly fond of what we called “hoagies” in the north east. You might know them as “submarines”, “po-boys” or “grinders”. Hmmmm? Oh, not that kind of sandwich?
It was recently “National Book Lover’s Day” (Aug 9), which surely deserves a mention. Reading and sharing good books is a big part of what we love in the boxes and booze household. Here’s a book which might keep you up at night, just trying to open it!

September 6 was National Read a Book Day, which is celebrated like a National Holiday at Boxes and Booze headquarters. This is because at B&B we love books as much as we love boxes. And booze.
